Mary Olson

Madison-Mary E. “Liz” Olson, age 88, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. She was born on November 10, 1927 in Irwin County, GA, the daughter of Luther and Cordelia (Whitley) Griffin. Mary grew up on a farm in the south of Georgia. On January 20, 1951, she was married to Richard Olson. They resided on the west side of Madison where together they raised three daughters. Mary was a phenomenal cook and will be remembered as an especially warm, caring person.

Mary is survived by her children, Mary (Larry) Quam, Sharon (Dennis) Heimann, and Dawn Olson; her grandchildren, Teri (Dan) Kalagian, Eric Quam, Dan (Amy), Paul (Sommer), and Austin Heimann; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Cecil Griffin.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard Olson; and a sister, Nelle Godwin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison, with Father Bart Timmerman presiding. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 10am until the time of service. Burial will follow the service at HIGHLAND MEMORY GARDENS.

The family would like to thank the staffs at Heritage Senior Living and St. Mary’s Hospital for the care provided to Mary as well as a thank you to the Middleton EMS for their fast response. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to Agrace Hospice or a charity of your choice.
