James Stanek

HILLSBORO/DEFOREST - James (Jim) Stuart Stanek, age 84, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully at his home in DeForest, on July 31, 2016 with his daughter by his side. James was born in Hillsboro, WI on June 26, 1932 to William Z. and Mary (Bulin) Stanek. He was a full blooded Bohemian whose parents spoke only Czech. He grew up in Hillsboro, and in 1953 he went off to the U.S. Army where he served our country until 1955. After returning home James met Janice Kirichkow at atwo day dance in Yuba, and were married in 1957. With great pride they built their own home in DeForest, and moved in December 31st, 1967. James had always worked as a mechanic and was employed at International Harvester in Madison, WI for over 20 years as a diesel truck mechanic. James was always putzing with something and loved to figure out how things worked. He also enjoyed tinkering, going downtown, having a cold beer, playing cards, scratch offs, but his passions were aircrafts, hunting and shooting He always looked forward to going to The Cesky Den every year in Hillsboro to celebrate his family’s heritage. James was a lifelong member of the NRA, The North Bristol Gun Club, and the American Legion.

James is survived by his daughter Julie “Punkin” (Sean) Stanek-Kuzdas; granddaughter, Karina; grandson, Cayden James; sister, Josephine Nachtigal. Further survived by several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by brothers Robert (Marriam) and George, brother-in-law, George Nachtigal.

A funeral service will be held at 6:00PM on Friday, August 5, 2016 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest. A visitation will be held from 4:00PM until time of service on Friday. A committal service will be held at 11:00AM at CHAMPION VALLEY BOHEMIAN CEMETERY in Yuba, WI on Saturday, August 6, 2016.
