Wilma Mayr

WINDSOR - Wilma Ione Mayr, age 91, passed away on July 31, 2016, surrounded by family. She was born on March 9, 1925 in Madison to Herbert and Emma (Bassler) Utter. The family moved to Windsor and resided in the Windsor Club Hall. Growing up, Wilma was an avid softball player, playing in local teams. She even tried out for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in Chicago. She also enjoyed driving her older brother’s stock car in Powder Puff Derbies.

She came from a musically talented family where she played the alto sax, piano, organ, and accordion. She, along with her father and two brothers, performed as a family band.

She graduated from DeForest High School as Salutatorian. She then attended UW Madison before working at Rayovac during WWII. She was also employed at Oscar Mayer, Eastex, Swiss Colony, and Evco.

She met her future husband, Sylvester at her best friend’s wedding and they were married a year later on October 25, 1952. After raising six children, she devoted much of her time to Bingo. She enjoyed latch hooking, Rosemaling, jigsaw puzzles, word searches, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and traveling, especially to Hawaii. As all great Wisconsinites she loved the Packers and Brewers, even when they were losing.

Wilma is survived by five fabulous children, Betty, Bill (Cathy), Walt, Dee, and Nancy; twelve terrific grandchildren, Rachel (Steve) Dodge, Greg (Stefanie), Nicole Anderson, Cory, Anna Ramiscal-Oury, Kayla Ramiscal, Tina Ramiscal, Jenny (Brice) Murphy, Justin (Maima) Jahn, Rick Jahn, Elliot (Sasha) Jahn, and Wesley Jahn; fifteen fantastic great-grandchildren, Cody, Zack, Brielle, Alexis, Olivia, Elijah, Axcell, Tiala, Maverick, Nick, Casey, Brooke, Adam, Colton, and Spencer. Wilma is further survived by many marvelous nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by husband; daughter, Kathy; brothers, George and Elmer Utter; grandsons, Zeth and Levi Ramiscal.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM at WINDSOR UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 4434 Second Street, Windsor, on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 with Rev. Julie Overman presiding. A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest, on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 and again from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church on Wednesday. Burial at Windsor Cemetery.
