ROCKFORD, IL / DEFOREST, WI – George Jonas Schlub, age 85, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 surrounded by his family. George was born on February 23, 1931 in Glen Flora, WI to Adam and Elisabeth (Aliesch) Schlub. He graduated from Glen Flora High School in 1949. George served in the US Army in the Korean War from 1951 – 1953. He moved to the Middleton area in 1956 and married Angeline Acker on September 27, 1957. George worked as a heat and frost insulator in the construction field for over 3 decades. He was a hobby aviator, receiving his pilot’s license in 1955. George loved tractors, he collected scale model tractors, and frequented farm auctions to add to his collection. George’s witty sense of humor was always welcome during a card game and will be greatly missed, especially when playing Euchre at the DeForest Area Community & Senior Center.
George is survived by his children, Kathy Bruns, Gary (Theresa), Gregory (Louicreacy), and Dean; eight grandchildren; siblings, John (Clara) and Barbara (Leo). Further survived by other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Adam (Wanda), Adolph (Eleanor), Robert (Olga), Elizabeth (Merril) Mickelson, Mary (Aurthur) Ward, Rudolph (Nello), and Jennie “Ann” (Richard) Hagen.
A Service will be held at 2:30 PM at NORTHERN WISCONSIN VETERANS MEMORIAL CEMETERY, Spooner, WI, on Friday, August 19, 2016. A visitation will be held at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest, WI from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM on Thursday, August 18, 2016.
