MADISON
Gerhard “Gary” Fischer, age 81, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2016, at his home. He was born in Berlin, Germany on July 12, 1935, the son of Fritz and Elli Fischer (Hartung). Gerhard moved to Madison with his mother and grandmother in the 50’s. He served 6 years in the U.S. Army, worked at Oscar Meyers for 32 years and was a member of the Eagles Club for 36 years. His mother, Elli, and his daughter, Suzanne, were his world. He also loved bowling (finally beating the “darn 10 pin” to achieve his dream 300 game at age 70), playing cards, the Packers and Badgers, and spending time with friends from Oscar’s, the Eagles Club, bowling leagues and Sherman Glen. Gerhard was very active and independent, and he enjoyed trips to California to see his daughter and son-in-law, and recently went with them to Hawaii. He will be remembered for his smile, youthful enjoyment of life, funny stories, kindness and generosity.
Gerhard passed unexpectedly and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Gerhard is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Comelo (Fischer) of California, his extended family -- the Cassatas, Baszynskis, Hustads, and Comelos. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK CHAPEL, 705 Femrite Dr, Monona. A reception for family and friends to share their “Gary Stories” will follow at 12.p.m. at the EAGLES CLUB, 2109 Bartillon Dr, Madison.
