Catherine Woodward

POYNETTE/DEFOREST- Catherine “Joan” Woodward, age 79, passed away on August 31, 2016. She was born in Portage on March 10, 1937, the daughter of Ervin William and Margaret Mae (Roberts) Schutz. Joan became a child of God through baptism at First Methodist Church in Portage on May 29, 1938. She married Robert Woodward on November 8, 1958 and the marriage was blessed with three daughters.

She drove bus for the Poynette School District for 17 years and was a Johnson Sales Service Parts Runner for 20 years.

Joan enjoyed traveling, attending plays, woodworking, taking drives in the country, bingo, dominoes and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite past time was genealogy, and she was a member of the Poynette Historical Society, the State Historical Society and the DeForest Historical Society, where she was Treasurer from 2002 to 2011.

She is survived by her children, Roxann (Chris) Grinde, Rhonda (Lowell) Johnson, and Rhoda Katz; her grandchildren, Stephanie (Aaron) Gallus, Krista Grinde, Michelle Johnson, and Thomas Johnson; her great-grandchildren, Aidan, Gavin and Madelyn Gallus; her brothers, Robert “Bob” (Edna) Schutz and Wally (Maida) Schutz; her sisters, Sandra Radewan and Margo (Peter) Holzman; special family friends, Mark and Chicki Olson; and many other special family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Margaret (Roberts) Schutz; and her brother, Harold Schutz.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Historical Society or the Deforest or Poynette Children’s Libraries.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at LORD OF LOVE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 105 Paradise Circle, DeForest. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Inurnment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in North Leeds. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday.
