Eleanore Sparks Main, age 80, passed away unexpectedly at St. Mary’s Hospital on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. She was born December 27, 1935 in Algona, Iowa, one of twelve children born to Donnell Dean and Luella Blanch (Brown) Sparks. While working at Younker’s Department Store in Ames, Iowa, she met her future husband, Bernard M. Main, and they were married almost 60 years ago on September 16, 1956 in Ames. They settled in Madison, where Bernard was working.
Eleanore was a devoted wife and mother. She was kind to everyone, with an easy laugh, and was like a second mother to her children’s friends as they were growing up. She was an avid reader, and a devout Christian. In her younger years she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing.
Eleanore is survived by her husband, Bernard; two sons, John (Anne) Main; Daniel Main; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two siblings, James (Kay) Sparks, Pauline Fullerton, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nine of her siblings.
Interment and a brief service will be held on Friday, September 9th, 2016 at 11:00 am, in the Garden of Devotion at Sunset Memory Gardens in Madison.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to your favorite charity in memory of Eleanore Sparks Main, as God’s charity was her first best purpose.
