Gilbert R. Pieper, age 90, of Lodi, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Haven Hills Nursing Home.
Gilbert was born on November 8, 1925 in the town of Burnett, the son of Fred and Martha (Luebke) Pieper. On June 17, 1966 he was united in marriage to Beverly A. Vitense. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Madison where he served in many ways, always willing to lend a helping hand to repair or construct something. Gilbert served during WWII in the U.S. Army.
Gilbert is survived by his son, Tom (Chris) Pieper of Lodi; his grandchildren, Mark (Kelly Bennett) Pieper, Michelle (Troy) Rasmussen, Matt (Jaimee) Pieper; his great-grandchildren, Jessie, Cole, Addyson and Aiden Pieper and Alexis Wedan. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; and brothers, Ervin, Arthur, Harvey and Raymond Pieper; sisters, Norma Johnson, Erna Shepard, Verona Krueger and Evelyn Kiesow.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Haven Hills Nursing Home in Lodi and Heartland Hospice for their kindness and care.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Gilbert’s life will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at ST. PAUL’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2126 N. Sherman Avenue, Madison with Rev. Jerry Kuhnke officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Cottage Grove. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
