Obituary
MADISON – Marian Faye Hendricks, age 102, died on October 30, 2016. Marian was born in Wilton, WI, on May 10, 1914, the daughter of Dr. Lewis S. and Mabelle Graves. She graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1931. After completing a course of study at Bryant and Stratton Business College in Chicago, she worked as a secretary at the State Teachers College in Platteville and at the Wisconsin State Capitol. On April 29, 1939, she was united in marriage with Virgil Hendricks. They resided in La Grange Park, IL, from 1948-1986. In 1986 Marian and Virgil retired to Galena, IL. Following Virgil’s death in 1999, Marian moved to Coventry Village Retirement Community in Madison. Marian was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club in La Grange, IL, and a lifetime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ and researching the genealogy of her family and Virgil’s family. Marian was a devoted wife and loving mother with a sweet, cheerful spirit and a constant thoughtfulness for others.
Marian is survived by her children, Marilyn of Harvard, IL, Albert (Lynn) of Houston, TX, Elaine (Joseph) Murphy of Fitchburg, WI, Jeanne (Donald) Wernly of Gaithersburg, MD, and Kathleen (William) Lincoln of Delavan, WI; daughter-in-law Nancy of Scottsdale, AZ; niece Polly (Brian) Coen of Alexandria, VA; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Virgil; an infant son Richard; son Gregory; and her brother and sister-in-law Howard and Nell Rose Graves.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00AM on Friday November 4, 2016 at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 South Owen Drive, Madison, with Msgr. Kenneth Fiedler presiding. A visitation will take place from 5:00PM until 7:00PM on Thursday November 3, 2016 at JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5700 Odana Road, Madison, and again from 10:00AM until time of Mass on Friday at the Church. Burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Galena, IL.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Coventry Village and Sebring Assisted Care, especially the resident assistants, and the staff of Agrace Hospice, for the care and love they gave Marian. Donations may be made to Catholic Charities.
