Obituary

Madison - Chalmers McKinley "Goody" Goodyear, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Waunakee Manor. He was born on September 6, 1928, in Harrisburg, PA, the son of Chalmers M. and Sara E. (Dunkel) Goodyear.

Goody was a devoted husband of 67 years to Joan, a loving father to Suzy and Rob, and a grandpa to Brian and Braedon. He graduated from William Penn High School in Harrisburg, PA, and Adelphi University in NY. Prior to serving in the U.S. Air Force, he played baseball in the minor leagues. As an engineer and physicist, he designed aircraft instrumentation equipment which is still in use today, and anesthesia and respiratory medical equipment which saved many lives. Goody was an avid sprint car and sports fan and enjoyed always having a production machine shop within his home. Goody shared Joan's love of dachshunds and always had a faithful dachshund with him for over 60 years.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Sheesley Goodyear; daughter, Suzanne (Graham) Goodyear Lukey and their children Braedon and Brian; son, Robert Goodyear (Christopher Kemp); niece, Eileen (David) Fuller; and grand nephews, Daniel and Joseph Fuller.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Alice J. Raith.

A Gathering of friends and family will be held from 2 - 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2016, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison. Burial will be held at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Mifflintown, PA.
