Mary Ternes

MADISON- Mary Jeanne Ternes, age 88, died on December 9, 2016, at the Four Winds Manor in Verona after a very short illness. She was born in Dodgeville on December 31, 1927, the daughter of Margaret and Matt Ternes. She attended grade school in Dodgeville and then graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1945. She then attended secretarial school in Madison.

Mary Jeanne began her work career at the State of Wisconsin Conservation Dept. She then began her many years with the U.S. Armed Forces Institute (USAFI). After retiring from there, she briefly returned to work part time at the UW Secretary of Faculty office.

She participated in many bowling leagues and enjoyed golf outings with friends. She was also very active in volunteering at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish.

Mary Jeanne is survived by her sister, Sister Marcia Ternes, Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist; her extended family, Mary “Katie” Stein, Patrick and Missy Stein and their children, Quinn and Mason, and Sue and Joe Eck and their children, Riley and Lauren; and her lifelong friend, Patricia F. Murphy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Joseph and Betty.

Her family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Four Winds Manor and Agrace HospiceCare for their care of Mary Jeanne.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Dodgeville.
