Raymond Elert

MADISON/DEFOREST – Raymond Jerome Elert, age 82, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016, unexpectedly at his home. Jerry was born on October 13, 1934 in Madison to Bernard and Petronella “Stella” (Van Haren)Elert. He grew up on the East Side of Madison, graduating from East High School in 1952. After school he joined the US Navy. Upon returning from service, Jerry married the love of his life, Kay Iris Sullivan, on October 11, 1958 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Madison. He retired after 28 years of service from Madison Gas & Electric as a Dispatcher. Jerry enjoyed traveling with Kay and friends, especially the trips to Hawaii. He had many hobbies that kept him busy after retirement including spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kay; son, Scott (Ginny); grandchildren, Amber, Erin, Suzanne, Ryan, Zach (Janelle), and Jordan; great grandchildren, Kiley, Sophie, and Noah; sister, Jane Gnabasik. Further survived by many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Shelly Ann Herritz; brothers, Frederick (Helen), and James (Ann).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, December 30, 2016 at ST. OLAF CATHOLIC CHURCH, 623 Jefferson Street, DeForest, with Father Vincent Brewer presiding. A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until time of Mass on Friday at the church. Burial at Highland Memory Gardens.
