June Bentel, 96, died Wednesday, December 21, 2016, in DeForest, Wis. She was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., to Walter and Charlotte (Spaninger) Madsen. She attended school in Crown Point, Ind., and Chicago. On Aug. 12, 1939, she married Adolph Walter Bentel in Chicago. They lived in Chicago and Antioch, Ill. She was employed for many years as a bookkeeper for Zayres in Round Lake, Ill. They retired to Eagle River, Wis., in 1980. He preceded her in death in 2001. Following his death, she lived in Salem, Wis., Antioch and DeForest.
She is survived by her children, Judy Kerby, Hayward, Wis., Wayne (Connie), Whitewater, Wis., Candace (Jim) Brownlee, Bloomington, Ill., Steve (Patricia), Windsor, Wis., and Fred (Mary) Paddock Lake, Wis.; foster daughter, Teresa Ley, Eugene, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son-in-law, Ray Kerby; and brothers, Walter, Leonard and Richard.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life and interment will take place at a later date at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery, Union Grove, Wis.
