Grace Ferchland

Grace B. Ferchland, age 96, died on Sunday, December 25, 2016. Grace was born on April 5, 1920 in Madison, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Phillip and Rose (Salerno) Barbato. Grace graduated from Central High School in 1938. She was a lifelong resident of Madison. On September 19, 1957 she married A. Ernie Ferchland, the love of her life.

Grace worked for the Public Service Commission and the Department of Securities from 1943-1957, and for the Monona Grove Schools for 19 years, retiring in 1982.

Survivors include a loving niece, Rozanne (Greg) Weidemann of Bolton, CT; great nephew, Scott (Darcy) Weidemann and their children, Evan and Ryan of Overland Park, KS; very special cousins, Rose DiPiazza of McFarland and Bill (Debby) Krause of Madison.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Ferchland, her mother and father, her first husband, Joseph Germono, her son, Dr. Joseph Germono and her sister, Josephine Petratta.

Grace’s greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved family and friends, especially young children. She was fortunate to have many caring neighbors and friends who were always there for her and made her part of their family. She wanted Cathy, Charlie, Elizabeth (Mike) and Chrisitian (Amy) Forsmo and family to know the special part they played in her life. Special thanks also to Fran Wray and Kathy Weber for the help they gave her. Grace was a kind and giving person who was grateful for the things her friends did for and with her.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, with Chaplain Christa Fisher officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the time of service. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
