Obituary

MADISON – Fredrick R.”Fred” Schroeckenthaler, age 84, reunited with his wife and loved ones on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. Fred was born on July 22, 1932 in Milwaukee, WI to Fred and Mabel Schroeckenthaler. He grew up in Milwaukee. After graduating high school, he served in the US Navy during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge. Upon returning, he married Virginia Kowalski on September 22, 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Portage. Fred belonged to Steamfitter’s Local 601 for 33 years. He finished his career working with his brother and best friend, Warren Schroeckenthaler. When he retired, he always started his day with a cup of coffee and enjoyed the company of his beloved dog “Peppie” that he would take to his fish farm. Fred was a selfless individual who always put others needs before his own.

Fred is survived by his children, Mark (Frances), Jimmy (Eilene), Laurie (Darryl) Dougherty, and Scott (Traci); grandchildren, Jennifer, Christine, James, Michael, Carolyn, Stephanie, Ryan, Devin, Arin, and Haley; 8 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Glorianne and Pat. He is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Virginia; brothers, Ronnie and Warren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC PARISH AT THE ST. JOSEPH CHURCH, 1905 W. Beltline Hwy, Madison, with Msgr. Tom Baxter presiding. A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, January 30, 2017 at JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Rd, Madison and again from 10:00 AM until time of Mass on Tuesday at the church. Entombment and full military honors at Roselawn Memorial Park.
