Harold Halverson

DeForest - Harold Jerome Halverson, age 92, passed away on Friday May 12, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born at home on May 18, 1924 in Morrisonville, the son of Harry and Esther Halverson. He graduated from DeForest High School in June of 1942 and enlisted in the Navy in November 1942. He served in the Pacific theatre in WWII as a naval aviator until discharged in January of 1946. Harold married Beverly Reese in 1945 and went to work for the Chicago and Northwestern Railway retiring as an Engineer in 1987. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and golf. He was a life member of VFW post 8483 Madison, WI.

He is survived by three children, Nancy (Dean) Dopkins of DeForest, Michael (Bobbie) Halverson of Poynette and Bruce (Peggy) Halverson of Iron Mountain, MI; a sister, Nola (Ron) Nordeng of Portage; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly, parents, and four sisters, Ellen, Janice, JoAnn and Betty.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Quartermaster VFW Post 8483, 5737 county Road CV, Madison, WI. 53704. The family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Motl and the Staff of Prairie Gardens for their excellent care and making Harold feel at home.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Norway Grove Cemetery, DeForest.
