Verona - Shirley Ann (Huggins) Schwoegler went to be with God and her family on Monday July 17, 2017.

Shirley was born in Janesville on August 10, 1927 to Lewis and Ora (Boland) Huggins . She moved to Madison at a young age and graduated from Madison East High School. While working at Democrat Printing in Madison after high school she met her lifelong friend Agnes Ripp. Agnes set Shirley up on a blind date with her husband's (Al Ripp) cousin, Jim Schwoegler and the rest was history. Shirley and Jim married on September 4, 1948 and celebrated 61 years together before Jim passed away in 2010.

Shirley and Jim raised 7 children together. Shirley was a great wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved knitting, cross stitch, needlepoint, sewing, baking (the cookie jar was always full) and playing cards. She had a great sense of humor. Shirley volunteered at the Meriter Hospital gift shop for 30 years. She loved her “job”!

Shirley is survived by son Steve (Laurie), of LaCrosse, daughters Mary (Steve) Rudolph, Verona, Theresa Allen (Belleville), Liz (Phil) Van Kampen, Oregon, Judy (Eric) Barrows, Lake Mills, Jane DeSmet, Mt Horeb; grandchildren Scott (Natalya Starr) Rudolph, Amanda (Tricia Meinholz) Rudolph, Jim Rudolph, Abe (Kim Haase) Schwoegler, Julia (Dan Schreier) Schwoegler, Evie Allen, Jono (Victoria) Evans, Jeff Van Kampen, Jacob Barrows, Patrick Barrows, Andrew Wilson, Ryan (Miranda Skram) DeSmet; great grandson Ethan Schreier and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, daughter Cathy Evans, her parents and all of her siblings.

Special thanks to the staff at Four Winds Manor in Verona who cared for Shirley so beautifully with love and humor. They became family to Shirley. Thanks to Heartland Hospice who were very supportive to the family through the last 9 months with their great care, comfort and knowledge. Shirley was able to pass with dignity for which we are grateful. Most of all thanks so much to the best daughter (and sister), Mary Rudolph. Mary took excellent care of both Shirley and Jim throughout their lives and was the family's go to source for medical information (translation). Both mom and dad were able to stay at home as long as possible because of Mary.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to St. Andrew Catholic Church, Verona.

Private services were held.
