Obituary
Madison-Arliene F. Winner, age 92, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. She was born in Madison, WI on January 11, 1925, the daughter of John and Velma (Rigert) Farrell. Arliene graduated from Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Edgewood High School in 1942 where she lettered in basketball. On December 29, 1945, she was married to Robert W. Winner. Arliene worked as a switchboard operator for the telephone company, a receptionist for Veteran’s Affairs and later a secretary at the Vilas Park Zoo. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Elks Club, Catholic Women’s Club, Red Hat, Volunteer St. Mary’s Auxiliary “Pink Ladies”, and Forester’s.
Arliene is survived by her children, Judy Verwiel, John “Moose” (Carol) Winner and Billy Winner; grandchildren, Krisi (Brian) Wollermann, Lauri (Jason) Carter, Bob (Maggie) Verwiel, Jared (Brandy) Verwiel, Diane (Larry) Leathers, Bob Winner, Ajni Winner and Logan Winner; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Winner; parents, John and Velma Farrell; sister, Esther Hoffmann; and son-in-law, John R. Verwiel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC PARISH at THE ST. JAMES CHURCH, 1128 St. James Ct., Madison, with Msgr. Tom Baxter presiding. Visitation will take place from 9am until the time of mass.
