Kathryn A. “Kay” Papierniak, age 93, passed away on December 16, 2017. The daughter of Bernard and Theresa (Eiling) Kroll, she was born August 13 1924 in Highland Township in Dry Bone, Wisconsin.
Kay graduated from Highland High School. She worked for Dr. and Mrs. H Tuchwood, Fennimore Wisconsin. Kay moved to Madison, Wisconsin in 1945. She attended Groner, Barnhart and Harper Cosmetology School. While going to school she worked at Olympic Restaurant-Uptown Grill and Browns Restaurant.
Kay married Leon “Pappy” Papierniak from Thorp, Wisconsin February 5 1947 at Holy Redeemer Church in Madison. She and Pappy worked at Browns Restaurant. Kay helped her husband through college. Kay and Pappy loved to travel, play cards, golf and enjoy their friends.
Kay worked in the waitress field. Kay worked for many Hotel restaurants. She also later in life did demos in stores. Most important to her was commitment to being a good wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Kay enjoyed all Holidays. She would decorate her home inside, Pappy would decorate the outside with Kays ideas. The neighbors, the Ellibees, would give comments.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, two infant brothers, Bernard and Paul, her husband Leon, brothers Cletus, Earl, Louis, and sister, Lucille. She is survived by her two sons and daughter: John (Laurel) Papierniak, Leo (Kim) Papierniak and Renee Papierniak, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Kay enjoyed the simple things in life. Kay will be remembered as a loving, compassionate, gentle and patient person. She always let us know she loved us.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 5001 N. Sherman Avenue, with Msgr. Charles Schluter officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., visitation will also be from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday at the church. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
