Obituary
MADISON – Annette H. Bernhagen passed away peacefully amongst family members on December 19, 2017 at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg.
Annette was born March 11th, 1935 the daughter of Herman and Marie (Schaunaghessy) Schroeder in Wonewoc, WI. She married Richard Bernhagen on October 1st, 1955 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Madison, WI. Annette was employed by the Madison Metropolitan School District as a teaching assistant for many years until her mother fell ill. While caring for her mother Annette began work at American Family Insurance where she retired from decades later.
Annette had a deep love for church and family, often hosting family gatherings and assisting with church functions. Earlier in life she enjoyed camping with family and developed a love for bird watching. Annette’s hobbies included gardening, sewing, cross stitching, and in retirement card making. She also took great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren. Annette is remembered by friends and family as being loving, caring, and a great listener. She was a sister, mother, or grandmother figure to all who were in her life.
Annette was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Bernhagen; Her parents, Herman and Marie Schroeder; her sister, Mary (Monica) Cullen; and her nephews Michael and Steven Cullen.
Annette is survived by her children Charles (Julie) Bernhagen, Lori (David) Samolyk, and Ronald (Susan) Bernhagen; as well as three grandchildren Sara (Aaron) Rostad, Paul Bernhagen, and Joshua Bernhagen.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her care providers – Heritage Assisted living, Sylvan Crossings, Meriter Hospital 11 Tower Staff, Dr. Erik Hardy, Agrace Hospice, and Dr. Mon Lu Yee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, with Monsignor Charles Schluter officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Following the Mass, the burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens, 3054 Co Rd BB, Madison.
