MADISON- Darlene H. “Dar” Strand, age 83, passed away on March 1, 2018. She was born in Cooks Valley, Wisconsin, on October 16, 1934, the daughter of Andrew and Dora Schwartz. She worked for many years at Wisconsin Cheeseman and Scott’s Candy. After retirement, Darlene enjoyed traveling to Okolona, Mississippi to volunteer at the Excel Center. She enjoyed fishing and her trips to Canada, and was an avid Vikings fan. Darlene loved tending to her flowers and garden, where she was most proud of her zucchinis. Darlene was a big pet lover and frequented the nursing home with her dog, Cash. From a hay barn, she rescued her most recent cat, Dooley Marie.

She is survived by her son, Todd Strand; siblings, Winnie Walters, Sister Virginia Schwartz, and Thomas “Tucker” (Merlene) Schwartz; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Strand; daughter, Virginia Schlies; and her siblings, Colette and Roma “Mousie”.

Darlene’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to, Mary and Bob Johnson, Bonnie and Gary Corbett, Jill Cerniglia, Mary Steinhofer and all of our wonderful neighbors, the UW Carbone Cancer Center,especially, Dr. Hei, Dr. McCartney and all of the nurses and staff that has helped us through this journey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2018, at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road with Father Randy Timmerman presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens with lunch following at the church. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Monday. Don’t be afraid to wear a little purple!

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Excel Center, in Okolona, Mississippi.
