Obituary
MADISON – Samuel F. Glazer, age 98, died on Friday, July 13, 2018. Sam was born on July 21, 1919 at Fond du Lac, WI, the 8th of nine children of Benjamin and Clara (Glass) Glazer. He attended public schools in Milwaukee, began his college education at MATC Milwaukee and entered the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1940. He graduated in 1947 after serving in the Army Air Force as the Communications Officer with the 490th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, in England and was separated in 1945 with rank of Captain. He became a member of the Army Air Corps Reserve upon separation from the Army. Sam Received a U.S. Air Force mobilization Assignment with the Selective Service System in 1950 and retired in 1971 with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
He was initially employed by the Commonwealth Telephone Company as a Plant Engineer. The company name later was changed to GTE of Wisconsin and subsequently to Verizon Communications. He was promoted to Safety Director in 1958, a position from which he retired in 1981 and where he became known as “Safety Sam”. He subsequently attended the University of Wisconsin as a Guest Student until December, 2006.
