Obituary
MADISON – David “Speer” Speerschneider, age 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 25, 2018. David was born on March 22, 1939 in Green Bay, WI to Earl and Kathryn (Mande) Speerschneider. He grew up in Green Bay and graduated from West High School in 1957. David went on to attend St. Norbert College, graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Speer worked at the Social Security Administration in IL then moved to Madison, WI to work for the State in 1966 and retired in 2001 from the Department of Transportation. He joined in marriage on June 18, 1983 in Madison, WI to Marilyn (Wilda) Kauth. Speer was an avid and talented golfer, winning 1st Flight of the 1968 State Public Links Tournament, was the 1978 Odana Hills Golf Association Tournament Champion and had four holes-in-one during his golfing years. David loved the outdoors, hunting at “The Shack”, dog training, cross country skiing, cooking, biking on Madison trails and was a Green Bay Packers and UW Basketball season ticket holder. Above all, for David, family came first.
David is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marilyn; daughters, Marcia (Kerry) Schiffman and Sandra (Paul) Wagener; step-son, Joseph Kauth; grandson, Nicholas Schiffman; brothers, Jim and Chuck (Mary); and the mother of his daughters, Joan. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other family and friends who feel indebted to his loyalty to family. Speer is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Julie; sister, Carol (Robert) Mathews; and sister-in-law, Patricia.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with an urn burial at Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison.
