Obituary
MADISON-Sharron “Walt” Smith, passed away from complications of pneumonia and heart disease on Monday, October 15, 2018. He was born June 28, 1948 in Hopkinsville, KY to Walton and Christine (Schemwell) Smith.
A graduate of Attucks High School, Walt continued his studies at Kentucky State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree. He worked for nearly three decades for the State of Wisconsin Division of Public Health as an indoor air specialist, retiring in 2015. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
Walt enjoyed fishing, cooking, and serving as a song / leader at church. Never at a loss for words, he was joyful and witty, expressing an opinion on every topic.
Walt is survived by his wife, Ann (Schmitz), and daughter, Jordan Smith, both of Madison; daughters, Natasha Smith of Baltimore, MD and Nicole Smith of Columbus, GA; son, Christopher (Antoinette) Smith of Columbus, GA; and grandchildren, Emoni Smith, Leanna Smith, Skylar Smith, Christian Shannon, Lailani Henry, and Emani Jones. He is further survived by his father-in-law, Richard Schmitz of Waunakee; sisters-in-law Cathy Schmitz (Sue Muzik) of Portland, Oregon; Joan (Mel) Hamilton of Waunakee; Luci (Mark) Ramthun of Dodgeville, Ellen (Patrick) Linnihan of Brookfield; five nieces, two nephews, and former wife, Jacquelyn Woodhouse.
He is preceded in death by his parents; younger brother, Douglas; mother-in-law, Arlene (Ripp) Schmitz; and granddaughter, Layla.

A visitation from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. will be held at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison on Friday, October 19, 2018. A private burial will be held at a later date in Kentucky.
