Obituary

Madison- Virginia Marie (Bongiovani) Froland (aka: Jean/Aunt Jeanie), age 90, passed away on Tuesday, March 18 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Virginia was born to Nicholas and Lorraine (Spangler) Bongiovani on November 3, 1934. She spent her childhood in the Madison Greenbush neighborhood, creating cherished memories with family, while also meeting her lifelong friends. Virginia graduated from Madison Central High School in 1952. She worked at Western Union from 1952-1958 and for the University of Wisconsin Medical School from 1958 until her time of retirement in 1990. Virginia married Peter Froland on October 19, 1957. Virginia and Peter spent 42 wonderful years together doing the things they loved; traveling, playing cards, going to casinos, taking classes (calligraphy, needlepoint, quilting, ceramics), caring for their sweet yorkies (Tammy and Honey) and taking yearly vacations to Trout’s Resort with their wonderful friends. Virginia had many years of fun with her card club, The Happy Bookers Book Club, Church Lady Luncheons and St. Joseph Grade School Friends monthly get togethers. She loved telling stories about the joy family and friends brought to her life and had an unconditionally loving heart and soul.

Virginia is survived by her brother; Nick (Vicki) Bongiovani; her sister, Rose (Dave) Bongiovani; her nephews and nieces who loved her dearly; her best friend, Mary Ann; as well as other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Peter; her parents, Nick Bongiovani and Lorraine Spangler; her stepmother, Josephine Bongiovani; her sister, Sharon (John) Hanushewicz; her brothers, Sam and Tony Bongiovani; and other beloved family and friends.

We would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Mary's Hospital for taking such good care of our Aunt Jeanie during her final days. We are so very grateful to have had her in our lives and know she will be watching over all of us. Go with joy and peace, dear one. We will be watching and waiting for your butterflies.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice in Virginia's memory.

My qdeepest sympathy to your family. I went to grade school with Jeanie. She had a great love of faith and was so kind. I miss lunches together and her kindness. May she rest in peace. Kindly Marjorie (Dirienzo) Johnson
