Joseph Nagle

MADISON – Joseph Welchans Nagle, age 92, passed away on October 27, 2021 at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. He was born September 5, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Charlotte (Welchans) Nagle. Joseph attended grade school in Sewickley and Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania and graduated from Logansport, Indiana High School in 1947. After spending his freshman year of college at the University of Michigan he transferred to DePauw University where he graduated in 1952. Two weeks after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as an Investigative Agent in the Counter Intelligence Corps in France until being discharged in 1955. He married Joan Kathryn Muzzy on August 28, 1953 in Carmel, California. He worked for the RAND Corporation in Cambridge, MA, Santa Monica, CA and Madison, WI and then at the University of Wisconsin. He retired from the Madison Area Technical College in 1995. Joseph enjoyed spending time in nature; walking, bird watching, and visiting the Arboretum. He also enjoyed the opera and loved books.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Nagle, in 2016 after 63 years of marriage.

He is survived by his children, Timothy (Anne), Sarah, and Daniel (Cristina); two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
