Obituary
Madison- Shauna Maureen Dugan, age 68, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022. She was born on December 28, 1953, to Arthur and Elizabeth (Horrigan) Dugan in Milwaukee, WI. Shauna was born with a lot of hardships in her life, unable to see and unable to hear. But she did not let that hold her back from living the best life she could. By reaching out and feeling for a watch, someone's rings, their ears, even their hair, she would know who would be spending the day with her. She knew how to communicate with tactile sign language, often asking for her hair to be wet and brushed. She taught us about kindness and patience, because it took a lot of love, patience, and dedication to care for her needs each and every day. But once she became accustomed to you, that's when she really shined bright. She also taught us how to be happy because she took joy in simple things. One of her favorite joys was being in water. Shauna loved her baths as well as swimming in the pool. In the water she was able to experience freedom from her physical limitations that she dealt with outside of the water. Taking walks outside to feel the sun on her face and wind in her hair was also one of her favorites. Shauna loved to work. She was a part of the vocational program for many years and could do any job that was asked of her. Over the years she became very close with the vocational team. Working provided Shauna with a sense of independence in a world where everything was done for her. We can both mourn the loss of Shauna as well as celebrate the wonderful life she had and the lessons she taught us. Shauna is survived by her sisters, Patti Dugan, Erin Dugan- Meluso and many wonderful caretakers over the years at Central Wisconsin Center. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Bridget Dugan.
A Celebration of Shauna’s Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Central Wisconsin Center, 317 Knutson Dr, Madison, WI 53704.
