Margery Ross

Margery Ileane (Gangstad) Ross, age 94, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2021, under the care of Agrace Hospice Care at Oak Park Place nursing home in Madison, WI. She was born on February 22, 1927, in Madison, WI, the daughter of Morton and Bensine Gangstad. She graduated from Madison East High School in 1945.

Margery and William Ross were united in marriage on January 24, 1950 in Madison, WI. William died in an accident in 1960. Margery was a loving mother and grandmother. She always encouraged her boys to join in church, sport, and scouting activities while growing up. She attended many of her boy’s youth and high school athletic events. She also enjoyed hearing about her grandchildren’s various activities and her son's hunting and fishing adventures. While raising her boys, Margery worked as a secretary for the Cates Law Firm, and for Dorn Hardware as a bookkeeper. She also served as a volunteer for many years at Bethel Lutheran Church's thrift shop in Madison.

Margery was passionate about taking in the local arts throughout her adult life. She learned water color painting and custom-sewing while attending adult education classes over the years. She enjoyed going to orchestra concerts and theatrical plays. She especially loved to go ballroom dancing in the Madison area. Margery joined several organizations such as the Eagles Club, Parents without Partners, and the Northeast Side Coalition of Aging at Warner Park. She was a member of Trinity and Bethel Lutheran Churches and enjoyed her long-time affiliation with Bethel Lutheran Church's XYZ Club (Extra Years of Zest), a Christian fellowship group for seniors.

She is survived by her sons, Steven (Mary), James (Sharon), Daniel (Lee), Gary (Barbara), Wayne (Kim), and grandchildren, Caelin and Annelise Ross, William and Linnea Ross, Karley Ross and Kathy Price.

Margery was preceded in death by her husband, parents; son, Eric Ross, and her brother John Gangstad. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in Margery's name may be made to: Agrace Hospice Foundation, 5395 E. A Memorial Service will be held for Margery at 11:00 a.m. on September 1, 2021, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 312 Wisconsin Avenue, followed by a fellowship gathering. A private family interment will follow. A special thank you to all the nurses, care givers and activities staff at Oak Park Place nursing home and Agrace HospiceCare, who cared for Margery during her time at Oak Park Place.
