Madison – James “Jim” Honer, age 94, passed away on December 24, 2024, at All Saints Senior Living in Madison. He was born on August 13,1930 in Richland Center, Wisconsin to parents Otto and Catherine (Killoy) Honer.

Jim served 4 years in the Navy, retiring as a Commander that he achieved in the reserves. He married Virginia M. Cleary on December 30, 1952, in Blanchardville, Wisconsin. Jim began his 30-year career with the U.S Department of Agriculture as an appraiser/loan officer. He then went on to start his own farm appraisal business, later retiring after 10 years. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and serving the 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus; a longstanding member of St. Maria Goretti and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Churches and serving eight years as vice president and president in the (NARFE) National Retired Federal Employee. Jim enjoyed studying family history and genealogy, golfing, bowling, and thoroughly enjoyed traveling with his wife and family making over 25 trips to Canada with his brother-in-law Mike.

Jim is survived by his wife of 72 years Virginia “Ginny”; son Mark; 2 grandchildren Chase and Hunter Werther; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Mari Werther; and his brothers Mike (Doris) and Tom (Ellen).

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Agrace Hospice and All Saints Senior Living nurses and staff for their care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2024, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 602 Everglade Dr, Madison. A visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Richland Center at a later date.
