Edward Hart

MADISON - Edward Earl Hart, age 78, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2016 in Madison, WI. He was born March 2, 1938 in Kenosha, Wisconsin and spent his formative years there. He graduated from Bradford High School in 1956. He was an all-around athlete, earning three letters in both baseball and football. Football was his main sport as he was Bradford’s football captain and MVP his junior and senior year. Additionally, he was selected to the Big Eight All-Conference team both junior and senior years. He was named the Big Eight conference MVP and was selected as a member of the Scholastic Coach Magazine All-American Squad his senior year. Eddie “The Pony” Hart earned a football scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Playing for three years, Ed was a three-time letter winner. As a starting halfback, he played on the 1960 Rose Bowl Team. He played semi-pro football for Sheboygan until surgery ended his active career. He served as a UW football recruiter for Milt Bruhn. His interest in sports continued as he coached youth football and softball teams and participated in City Rec sports. He was inducted into the Kenosha Public School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986. He remained an avid Wisconsin Badger fan, enjoyed playing cards and walking his faithful companions Bear and Scully. Professionally, Ed worked in the City of Madison Assessor’s office for 33 years.

He is survived by his daughters Heather Hart, Heidi Hart and Hayley (William Bunke) Hart; grandchildren Damon, Alec and Jeryn; great grandchild Alex; sister Carol Hoferitza and companion Christine J. Schara. He is proceeded in death by his former wife, Joan Amundson Hart; parents Joseph and Lucille Hart and sisters Claire Schmidt and Audrey Hart.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
