Obituary

Oregon-

Virginia Lou Perkl, age 87, of Oregon Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Virginia was born on June 12th, 1937, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin to Lyle Higgins and Irma (Allen) Higgins. She graduated in 1955 from Edgerton High School. On August 31, 1963, she married Edward Clarence Perkl in Madison, Wisconsin. Ed and Virginia enjoyed 53 wonderful years together and raised three beautiful children. Virginia spent most of her career as a medical transcriptionist for many local hospitals. Some of her volunteer work included emergency medical services for local ambulances and tutoring at Oakhill Correctional Institute. Virginia and Ed pursued many interests together including restoring antiques, traveling, and tending their beautiful gardens. Virginia was a seamstress and textile artist extraordinaire, a voracious reader, and always loved a good story. Her long list of talents, her humor, and her creativity will be remembered by everyone who knew her. Above all else, Virginia loved her family, especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was incredibly proud of their accomplishments.

She is survived by her children: Larry (Pam) Perkl, Bradley (Heather) Perkl and LaRae Smith; grandchildren, Breeana (Parker) Coleman, Logan (Kristen) Smith, Zach Perkl and Rose Perkl; great grandchildren, Aiden Smith, Aria Coleman and Sophia Coleman; her sister, June Wall, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle Higgins and Irma Allen Higgins; husband, Edward Perkl; daughter, Rebecca; and her sisters, Beverly Higgins, Donna Guernsey and Lyla Higgins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, at ST. BERNARD PARISH CENTER, 2438 Atwood Avenue, Madison, with Father Michael Radowicz officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oregon Public Library or consider the above option of planting trees in Virginia’s name.

A special thanks to the dedicated staff at Health Partners Hospice, and Cerenity Senior Care Center for their love and care for Virginia and our family.

I met Mrs. Perkl at Lary's fire station in Houston, Texas. She was a very sweet lady with a gleaming smile that would bring sunshine onto everyone's day. Thank you for your time given back to the community helping others. RIP Mrs. Perkl. May god bless this family! Senior Captain Rex Ticknor, Houston Fire Department, Retired.
