Obituary
Ila Mae (Edge) Cordes was born on June 25, 1937 to parents Ersel and Fern (Neuroth) Edge in Dodgeville, WI. She went home to be with the Lord on October 13, 2020 at the age of 83. Ila spent her youth helping on the family farm, attending school, and participating in various school activities and music programs. Ila graduated in 1955 from Lancaster High School in Lancaster, WI. Knowing she wanted to pursue her interest of nursing, she graduated in 1958 from Finley School of Nursing in Dubuque, IA. She worked as a registered nurse for 12 years at Madison General before staying home to raise her children. Of her 12 working years, a year was at a military hospital in Wurzburg, Germany. On March 3, 1962, she married Richard J. Cordes at the First Baptist Church in Lancaster, WI.
Ila took pride in keeping a warm and welcoming home of which were in Madison, WI; Windsor, WI; Sun Prairie, WI; Sioux City, IA; Eden Prairie, MN; Eau Claire, WI; and Monticello, MN. Ila loved everything that came with raising children: birthday and holiday celebrations, the 1st day-of-school, last-minute class assignments, volunteering, vacations, pets, graduations and marriages. She also enjoyed crafts, baking/cooking, sewing, gardening, garage-selling, reading, grand-dog sitting, but most of all spending time with the grandchildren at their ball games, music concerts and family get-to-togethers.
Ila will be remembered for her true gift for caring for others. A beloved daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother and friend, Ila will be missed by all who knew her.
Ila is survived by her husband Richard Cordes of Monticello, MN; her children Derek Cordes of Eau Claire, WI; Don (Mary) Cordes of West Bend, WI; Diane (Randy) Cordes of Maplewood, MN; Darla (Cory) Endle of Rochester, MN; grandchildren Blake, Kyle, Adria, Dylan and Caden; siblings Iva (Bernard) Ruchti of Madison, WI; Dick (Betty) Edge of Arlington, TX; nieces and nephews and many friends.
Ila was preceded in death by her parents as well as her maternal and paternal grandparents.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Door Creek Church - DeForest, 6640 Pederson Crossing Blvd, DeForest, WI. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church. Family interment will follow at Windsor Congregational Cemetery.
