Madison/Mercer Wisconsin -Jerry C. Lane, 84 passed away peacefully January 13, 2021. He was born on August 22, 1936 to Charles and Flay (Stapleton) in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Jerry graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1954. Following High School Jerry briefly attended College, leaving early to come home and run Lane’s Bakery after his father suddenly died. Jerry ran the Bakery until 2003 when he retired. In 1960 Jerry married the love of his life Nancy Bonner. Jerry was dedicated to the bakery, spending many hours there making sure the customers received the absolutely best product in Madison. Jerry was also greatly involved in the Retail Baker’s Association and the Wisconsin Baker’s Association. Jerry served as President of WBA from 1982-1983 and served as a Director of the RBA. Jerry won numerous awards as a quality baker such as “Best of Madison” several times as well as many WBA bakery foods and decorating contest.
Jerry was the kindest person you would have ever met. Jerry loved to golf, spending time at their cabin in Mercer, but most especially spending time with his family. Jerry also loved to play cards and gamble, especially Keno, forever chasing 7 out of 7.
Jerry is survived by his two sons, Charles (Becky) of Janesville and Michael (Ann) of Madison; two grandchildren, CJ Lane and Kristina (Matt) Schroeckenthaler; three great grandchildren, Max, Genevieve and Ava; one sister Betty Lou Petrie of Rockford, Il. In addition, Jerry is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Jerry is also survived by many good friends, especially Eric (Brenda) Larson. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy Bonner Lane; his parents, Charles and Flay and sister Lois Dorn.
A private Celebration of Life will be held for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, the family is going to establish a scholarship in Jerry’s name for the MATC Baking Program.
