Obituary
Madison – Robert L. “Bob” Schaller, age 86, passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg. He was born in Green Bay, Wis. on September 9, 1934, the son of Leeland and Gladys (Morris) Schaller. Bob married Francita “Cita’’ (Lyons) Schaller on December 9, 1953 and together they raised eight children. Bob was a man of many talents as his kids can attest. Bob proudly served 4 years in the US Navy during the Korean War on a mine sweeper. He went on to become an auto mechanic for 20 years before getting smart and accepting a position with the Wisconsin Air National Guard working on the units many different aircraft. He was an a/c Mechanic, Crew Chief, Dock Supervisor and Maintenance Control Dispatcher during his 30 year career. He had numerous friends in the Guard and really enjoyed his time out at Truax Field. Bob was an avid motorcyclist, having toured many different places in the US, a hobby all his children participated in. It was a family affair! But for all who knew him, they would say without a doubt one of his greatest loves was playing cards. Euchre was his mainstay, but cribbage and dirty clubs ranked right up there. Don’t mess up while playing though, or you would hear about it.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Francita Schaller; his children, Robert Schaller, Thomas Schaller, Mark Schaller, Richard (Ronda) Schaller, Michael Schaller, Scott (Teresa) Schaller, Debra Schaller-Colantone and Lynda (William Nisbet) Schaller; his 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and his beloved sister, Sherry (Steve) McDonald.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frederick “Fritz” Schaller; sister-in-law, Pat Schaller; and daughters-in-law, Theresa and Patty Schaller.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at 5:00PM at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N Sherman Ave, Madison. A Memorial Gathering at Tom’s (Ed Schaller’s old farm) will be scheduled for later this summer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bob’s name to the American Cancer Society.
