Obituary
In Madison, WI at 9pm on July 4, 1966 as the Independence Day fireworks began Steven Max Scheel was born at Madison General Hospital to James Warren and Billie Chlo (Olson) Scheel.
Steve was a thoughtful, loving and caring son and brother with a quick wit, who always enjoyed a lively discussion. He was a quick learner and accomplished a great deal over the years.
He participated in Badger Boy’s State, was Valedictorian of his class at Sheboygan North High School and was offered scholarships from a number of prestigious universities. Steve chose an academic-athletic scholarship to the University of the Pacific (UOP) in Stockton, California, and graduated with honors. He then returned to Madison and earned his MBA at UW-Madison.
Steve was athletic and enjoyed a competitive challenge. He was pitcher of his Little League team, as well as a fine tennis and basketball player. But his real love was the game of golf. As a high school junior he was among the ten most promising young golfers in Wisconsin. While at UOP he became a member of the golf team. He won first-place trophies in numerous golf tournaments throughout his life. After a decade in the business world, he returned to golf spending his remaining years as a teaching and managing PGA professional at various locations in Wisconsin and several other states.
He treasured the time he spent with all the doggers and kitties he met in his life. To honor Steve’s love of animals, memorials and/or donations may be directed to Best Friends Animal Society at www.bestfriends.org.
At home on June 12th, he was unexpectedly taken from us. Steve will truly be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Billie Scheel, two sisters, Cindy and Terri Scheel, all of Sun Prairie, WI; two brothers: Curtis (Cynthia) Scheel of Covington, LA and Cameron (Donna) Scheel of The Colony, TX; a niece and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Scheel.
