Patricia Jean (Mahanna) Vallon, formerly of West Bridgewater, Mass., died on July 12, 2021, surrounded by family while under SSM hospice care at St. Mary’s Care Center in Madison, Wisc. She was 83.
Pat was born Feb. 12, 1938 in Avon, Mass., the daughter of the late Peter Mahanna, Sr. and Ruth (Tower) Mahanna. She graduated from Avon High School.
A tireless worker, Pat was devoted to helping others and saving lives. She was a dispatcher for 32 years with the Avon police and fire departments. Rather than retire at that point, she studied nursing at Brockton Hospital in conjunction with Fischer Junior College, to become a registered nurse. She worked at nursing homes in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and at the Mass Correctional Institute — MASAC-SECC in Bridgewater, Mass. She also did volunteer missionary work in the Dominican Republic.
Pat later moved to San Antonio, Texas and worked several years at University Hospital. She then retired near family in McFarland, Wisc.
Pat was devoted to her seven children and their families. She was a big fan of Boston sports teams and loved to travel. Nurses at St. Mary’s said Pat was incredibly kind to others, and provided comfort to those nearing the end of their lives.
She is survived by her sisters Ruth Loring and Mary Ackil; her children, Patricia Gay (Jerry) of Newtown, Conn., Carol Belcher of Cumberland, R.I., Joseph Vallon (Christine) of Taunton, Mass., Anthony Vallon of Cottage Grove, Wisc., Peter Vallon (Betty Ann) of Summerville, S.C., Michael Vallon of Spokane, Wash., and Paula Ford (Jeffrey) of Warwick, R.I.; 12 grandchildren, Kevin, Katie, Matthew, Andrew, Michael, Jeremy, Patrick, Timothy, Sarra, Ryan, Aubrey and Libby; and five great grandchildren, Graham, Autumn, Madelyn, Anthony, and Mason. She was predeceased by her former husband, Joseph Vallon, Sr., her brother, Peter Mahanna, Jr., and her daughter-in-law, Kris Vallon.
