In the early morning hours of August 20, 2021 Robert “Bob” Nyland passed away peacefully at Oakwood Village Prairie Ridge at the age of 89.
He was born on the south side of Chicago on May 1, 1932 a son of Frank and Anna Nyland. On a hayride he met his soulmate, Lucia “Mitzi” LeVitus and married on October 27, 1956. After moving to Madison, Wisconsin he worked at Madison Transit and Madison Metro from which he retired after 30 years of service.
Bob enjoyed a fine cigar, our epic poker games during the holidays, betting on the horses, The Badgers as one of Bucky’s Ambassadors and being mistaken countless times as Ed McMahon, having signed a few too many autographs as his celebrity twin. He will be missed by his five children: Mark (Kim) Nyland, Dawn Nyland, Ray (Ruth) Nyland, Frank Nyland and Luci (Dan) Becker; Grandchildren Anna, Bobby, Erick, David, Tess and Chet and great grandchildren Brooklyn, Brittain, Eva, Lily, Gia and the soon to be announced baby boy in Eau Claire.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 45 years, Mitzi Nyland. We want to extend our sincere thanks to the caring staff at Oakwood Village and Agrace Hospice. You are saints.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021 at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., with the Very Rev. Gabriel Lopez-Betanzos officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday at the church. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
