Jeana Marie Lawler was born on July 2, 1958, in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan and passed away on October 6, 2021, in Soldotna, Alaska. Jeana's first years were spent mostly in Luxembourg, while her dad was stationed on an Air Force base. Then she grew up on the far east side of Madison where she attended Frank Allis, Sennett, and LaFollette. Jeana met Charles “Butch” Lawler and his family and grew very close to them. Jeana and Butch fell in love, married, and had 2 children. Jeana retired from the State of Wisconsin after working there 35 years with most of her time spent working at Mendota Mental Health. Later in life Jeana met Scott Cotillier, who was her best friend, soul mate, and partner in crime. The greatest peace we have is knowing they are with each other.
Jeana's biggest pride was her grandson, Carmelo, who she loved unconditionally. She loved being a nana to all her grandchildren. Jeana's favorite thing to do was to cook for people and entertain them. She had an undeniable love for her cats, specifically Blackjack, Scott's best friend. Lastly and most importantly, she loved her children and spent years as a Girl Scout leader, taking them on adventures, watching them play sports, molding them as adults, and supporting them in all their endeavors.
She is survived by her children Holly, Kady; her co-parent Charles Lawler; stepchildren Brandon (Sarah) and Breanna; grandchildren, Carmelo, Treyson, Aubrea, Elijah, and Jada; mother and father Jackie Scheffler, and Jerry Scheffler; her siblings Jocelyn and John (Michelle) Scheffler; and many beloved cousins, nephews and nieces.
She is preceded in death by her partner Scott; her sister Jill; her in-laws John and Kathy Lawler; her stepmom Ceclia; and her grandma and grandpa's.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue, Madison. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service. A celebration will immediately follow the memorial service at Willows Tavern, 5485 Willow Road, Waunakee.
