Obituary
Madison – Thomas P. Eckstein, age 90, passed away on October 27, 2021 after a long battle with dementia. Tom was born June 13, 1931 to Andrew and Theresa (Dick) Eckstein in Cross Plains, WI. He was united in marriage to Shirley Shea on October 26, 1957 at St. Bridget’s Church in Ridgeway. Tom served in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Vallour. Tom worked as a Railroad telegrapher for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad until he attended the University of Wisconsin and received a degree in Education. Tom worked for the Madison School District for many years.
Tom was an avid model railroader. He was a member of the National Railroad Association and a charter member of the Riverside & Great Northern Railway.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents; a brother, Sylvester; and sisters, Delores McGinnity and Patsy Statz.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Gladys Starry; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021 at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Avenue, with Fr. Scott Emerson officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will follow at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, Cross Plains.
