Grace was a great undergraduate advisor in the English Department who not only helped students but also professors! She was especially gifted at identifying talented students and persuading them to pursue honors. Grace would regularly send me students who wanted to write a senior honors thesis and, though challenging, it was one of the best learning experiences I had when I first started teaching. She will be missed.

We were neighbors in the early 70s and 80s. So our kids went to country school with hers. Grace and Bob were both always so pleasant to talk with. So sorry for your loss, Bob & Pat Matts

Grace was one of my favorite people at UW-Madison. I got to know her when I joined the faculty in 2002, and right off the bat she impressed me with her concern, care, and support for our students. I had many conversations with her about teaching and student success, and I know both that I became a better teacher for it and that students became better students because of her influence. And she made us all better people. She touched so many and she will be missed.
