Joan was a knowledgeable colleague. I was the librarian at Jefferson Middle School and she was at East High School. We served on numerous committees together and weathered the revolutionary changes the computer and internet brought. She was a friend with a passion and talent for roses. She was quietly capable and respected. My sympathy to her beloved family.

I enjoyed playing bridge with Joan for many years. It was always a treat when she entertained to see her lovely back yard and her rose bushes. She generously shared with me her recipe for Accordion Treats. Her result was always betterthan mine! When she wold talk about her family, it was always evident how much she loved and respected them. She will be missed.

Joan was a special neighbor to us on Lincoln St. for 42 years. She taught me so much about gardening and she and Steve had many educational discussions. She was always interested in what our kids were up to and supported our son Michael with lawn mowing funds. She loved walking and visiting with the neighbors. We shared teacher banter back and forth as we are both teachers as well. We had just started to get to know Joan and Vern when he passed away so soon after moving to their new home. She was indeed a strong survivor who faced life head on after that tragedy. We are saddened by her loss but are grateful that she is now at peace.

My condolences are extended to Joan's family. I was fortunate to work with Joan at East High. She was truly admired for her knowledge regarding the management of running a library and it's evolutionary status. Joan was a good friend.
