Madison –

Shirley Mae Mary Riggs, age 90, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. She was born on August 27, 1931, in Sun Prairie, WI, the daughter of Ross and Othilia (Uebersetzig) Baltzell. She was united in marriage to Thomas “Tom” J. Riggs on September 5, 1953, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Madison.

Shirley’s talents included sewing, knitting, and gardening. She also loved to go antiquing. Shirley will be remembered as the consummate hostess and was a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her sister, Marguerite “Peg” Farrell; sister-in-law, Jo Baltzell; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Joan) Riggs and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her parents; sister, Betty (Dick) Bavery; brother, Pete Baltzell and brother-in-law, Bob Farrell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Shirley and her husband, Tom, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 602 Everglade Drive, with Father Bart Timmerman officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday at the church. Interment will be held at a later date at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Waunakee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Olbrich Gardens or the charity of your choice.

Growing up on Rushmore La. my memories of both Tom and Shirley were so happy as they were what made the neighborhood such a positive and caring time. Always ready to take time to say hello and engage with the children of the area.

"SQUIRREL"From the baby mice in the van, to the walking off the pier fully dressed, to the talking parrot at Fishermans Village and to every July 1 (Tillie's Birthday) mass, walking to the cemetery, eating, shopping and laughing with the Pissie sisters, so many memories. You will be missed but never forgotten. RIP Auntie
