Windsor/Chicago- Janet Ann (Mortenson) Ollech, age 75, the Matriarch of our family, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. Jan was born on March 4, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the second child of Arthur and Mary (Lesnar) Mortenson, joining her brother Art.

Jan graduated from St. Gregory High School in Chicago, Illinois in 1965. Soon after she married and started a family. Jan spent most of her early years being a wonderful Mother, Wife, Aunt, and trusted Friend to many.

Jan also spent many years owning, running, and managing 2 successful businesses. The most recent being a bar, The Cabaret Lounge. She was happy being there for all of her patrons that looked at her as “Mom”, as she cared about each and every one of her customers like family. She will be missed.

Janet is survived by her four Sons: Peter (Lisa) Lindahl, Bill Lindahl (Julie Del Pilar), Mark (JoAnne) Lindahl, Robert Ollech; seven Grandchildren, Andrew, Amanda, Abby, Mary, Nick, Isabella, Amelia; one great-granddaughter Nora; her close friend and sister-in-law Camille Mortenson and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Mary and her Brother Arthur Mortenson.

At this time there will be no services per Mom's request. We hope to gather for a celebration of her life in the future.

Peter, Billy, Mark and Robert, so saddened to hear of your Moms passing. Please accept my condolences. We had so many great conversations in the kitchen of 837. Such a beautiful person. May she Rest In Peace.

So very sorry for your loss. My Thoughts & Prayers are with you all. I knew Jan for over 40 years considered her a good & trustworthy Friend! She spent many of nights listening to me complain about everything! The best time spent with her was a vacation in Arkansas! Many of good times! She with be missed by many.

Little did I know when my Dad married her and our families merged just how much of an adventure all of us would have as a family. Keeping you all and everyone close to you in my heart. So sorry to learn about the passing of a wonderful woman. I met Jan 25+ years ago when she was running the fabulous Cabaret Lounge on Montrose. I will never forget her kind heart. Every year during the holidays she would put out an amazing food spread for all her patrons, especially those who may have been down on their luck or without family. She didn't do this for publicity or to attract business. She did this because, as she often reminded me, "Some people have nowhere to go and no one to spend the holidays with. So they are welcome to come here for a warm meal." IMO she was a great woman and a good friend. I will miss her smile, her laugh, her guidance and support as she was always good at keeping certain people in their place when they would occasionally step "out of line". My prayers go out to her family. She was always very proud of each and every one of you. Jan has passed on, but the many memories and good times she helped create at the Cabaret will live on ...
