Harry Wolter

DeForest - Harry R. Wolter, age 92, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on June 22, 2022. Harry was born on May 8, 1930, and raised in Berlin, Germany.

After finishing school, he was employed as a carpenter specializing in cabinet making. Harry met the love of his life Else Giebel and they married in 1956. In 1965, Harry and his family moved to the United States eventually settling in Madison where he worked as a machinist at Ohio Medical until he retired in 1993. Harry enjoyed working with his hands and excelled at handyman projects. He also was an accomplished gardener and meticulously groomed his flowers and his yard. Harry and Else loved to travel and visited many vacation spots around the world and especially Germany. Since his retirement Harry enjoyed puttering, taking walks and spending time with his family and friends which always ended with a hearty hug or handshake and a jovial “Till the next time”.

Harry was preceded in death by his son Wolfgang Wolter and his sister-in-law Crista Wolter of Germany. Harry is survived by his wife Else; his brother Wolfgang Wolter of Germany; a son; a daughter-in-law Virginia Wolter; and several grandchildren.

A private ceremony will be held at a later date. Harry’s last wish was to be taken back to his cherished homeland of Germany and his treasured city of Berlin. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. The family would like to thank Agrace Hospice and all the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff who made Harry’s twilight days comfortable and dignified.
