Loren Wittye

Madison - In keeping with his lifelong credo of life-long Beloved Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather Loren left us for greener pastures on Sunday, June 26, 2022. Loren always lived life unapologetically on his terms so his abrupt departure from this world was classic Loren. He was born in Union County NJ to German Immigrant parents Bertha and Philip Wittye. He learned early on, the value of hard work from both parents and as such, was left to his own devices with other “yoots” in his “Joisey neighborhood”. Loren was an Airman First Class stationed at Okinawa AF Base where he developed code for missile guidance systems. After he completed honorably serving his country, he began a long and storied career as a supervisor for the US Postal Service landing him, for reasons still unclear to us, in the heart of the Midwest at the Milwaukee Street Distribution Center in Madison where he met his wife Marlet Servais. He was subsequently united in marriage to Marlet on October 16, 1976.

Loren was indeed a man of many skills, abilities in a life chock full of contemplation and compromise. A true renaissance man. He was a firearms enthusiast and an excellent shot, so his sons learned the value of respect. He was fluent in Japanese and studied chemistry and Mandarin. He was a self-taught parent, grandparent, and chemist. ¬

Just a few of our fond memories include: • He took pride in declaring himself “first on scene” when grandchildren Amber and Cameron were born. • He loved to play Nancy Drew and the Elder Scrolls series of computer games with his grandchildren teaching them the importance of strategy and critical thinking. • He was a master chess player with the patience of Job in teaching his teenage son Derek and Grandson Cameron to play. • He taught his grandchildren to play guitar and read sheet music after tormenting him with their newfound fifth grade recorder playing skills. • He was Champion bowler at the Osaka bowling tournament in 1961 and loved bowling • Held weekly online gaming sessions of Ticket to Ride and Hearts with his brother-and sister-in-law. When he’d start losing to his brother-in-law, he’d threaten to make a voodoo doll of him. • He was such a kind and thoughtful grandfather that he’d regularly take his eldest granddaughter Amber, shopping at Hot Topic without hesitation or complaint. • Loren had little time for sports. He was instead, a fan of (some of the better) Clint Eastwood movies such as Gran Torino and the Dirty Harry series. • True to his heritage, he was fond of a fine homemade liqueur. One family member took great delight in crafting the “Christmas” batch, each year changing the recipe up slightly to determine if his palate remained at self-proclaimed levels of sophistication.

While he always enjoyed a good road trip in a well-engineered German auto, he was most fond of taking his little turquoise Honda 250cc motorcycle on a Saturday morning to get his “kawfee” from a McDonald’s. (Loren was such a tall and lanky person that he looked like a teenager on a mini-bike riding down the highway sporting a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers and a great big grin to complete the picture).

Loren is survived by Son, Scott (Shauna) Robinson, Brother-in-Law Gordon (Sue) Servais, Sister-in-Law Suzi (Tom) Chorn, Sister-in-Law Patti Servais (Tom Whelan) several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. Grandchildren Amber S. and Cameron A. and Great Granddaughter Isabella Robinson all of Jefferson WI. Grandchildren Josephine, Charlene, Rachel, Evangeline, Trinity, Melanie, Silas and Robinson all of Luxemburg WI. Not to mention his many friends and associates of the USPS.

Loren was preceded in death by his wife, Marlet, a son, Derek Robinson, parents Philip and Bertha Wittye, In-Laws Eleanor and Alvin Servais and last, but not least, his three beloved cats: Smokey Joe, Mischa the Terrible and “Cat”.

A funeral service will be held at 4pm on Friday, July 1,2022 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N Sherman Ave, Madison, with Rev. William Wineke officiating. Visitation will be held from 2pm until time of the service.
