Obituary
DeForest – Beverly Mae Derlein Sperry, age 91, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022. She was born September 17, 1930 to Forrest and Thelma Griswold. She married John Robert Derlein on July 14, 1951. They raised their family together until his passing in 1978. She was wed to Gaylord “Curly” Sperry on July 26, 1982 until his passing in 2006. Bev was a longtime member of the American Legion of Sun Prairie and many bowling leagues. She really enjoyed the Pride of America campground, where she was the life of the party at site 92. Bev enjoyed her “snowbird” years in Inverness, FL, and nice glass of chardonnay (with ice). Most importantly her pride and joy were her grandkids and great grandkids. She cherished spending time with not only her family but friends that became family along the way. Bev was a grandma to everyone, evidenced by the softball team named after her (Grandma’s Oasis) made up of family and friends.
Beverly is survived by her children, Kathy Johnson of Madison, John “Jack” (Rosann) of Montello, Dave (Joni) of Lasalle, IL, Robert “Bob” (Regina) of Pardeeville, Janice Derlein Romine of DeForest; grandchildren, Debra (Andy) Ayres, Kim Lex, John (Sarah) Derlein, Adam Lex, Amanda (Josh) Kearney, David (Arcelia) Derlein, Jennifer (Tony) Gende, Scott (Shannon) Derlein, Kelli (Christopher) Notaro, Rob (April) Derlein, and Kenny (Sarah) Derlein; and step grandson, Jacob (Ashley) Johnson; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Elda Meier; and her furry sidekick, Kaycee. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Benjamin Shields; husbands John Derlein & Gaylord “Curly” Sperry; Daughters, infant Debra Derlein and Nancy Sluder; son-in-law, William Johnson; brother, Arnold Griswold; sisters, Arlis Krueger and LaForrest Scott; sister in law, Elizabeth Griswold; brothers in law, Richard Scott, Norman Krueger, and Melvin Meier.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00PM on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest. A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until the time of service on Sunday at the funeral home. Final resting place Roselawn Memorial Park.
Just remember, Grandma would always say “I love you a bushel and a peck” and “why complain, it won’t get you anywhere”. Mom, it’s not goodbye, it’s see you later.
