Obituary

Madison – Peter D. Brethouwer, age 77, passed away on July 19, 2022, at the UW Hospital, Madison. He was born on October 26, 1944, in Bethesda, Maryland to parents Melvin and Dorothy (Washburn) Brethouwer-Dutton.

Peter graduated from Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, MD in 1962. After high school he attended Kalamazoo College where he obtained a bachelor's degree in economics. He served in the United States Army where he played clarinet in the U.S Army Band. Peter worked as a bank examiner for the FDIC for over 40 years. Peter married Lynn Blankenheim in 1972. Together they lived in Madison and were blessed with two children.

Peter is survived by his 2 sons, Greg Brethouwer of Westminster, CO and Brad (Becki) Brethouwer of DeForest, WI; 2 grandsons, Mason and Joe Brethouwer of DeForest, WI; his former wife, Lynn Brethouwer of Sun Prairie. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his stepfather Harold Dutton.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Dear Lynn, I so enjoyed reconnecting with Pete and meeting you a few years ago. Pete was such a sweet guy and I well remember the lunch we had with other K grads a few years ago when you were out here in Colorado.
