Lois Sampley

MADISON - Lois (Hays) Sampley, age 93, of Madison passed away peacefully on September 18, 2022, at Agrace Hospice Care. Lois was born on December 8, 1928, in Portage, Wisconsin, the daughter of Arthur and Clara (Wanderer) Hays. She graduated from Portage High School in 1946, and attended Madison Business College. Lois married Darwin Sampley on October 1, 1949, in Portage. She worked for the State of Wisconsin Board of Health as a stenographer prior to starting her family. Lois was a long time member of Bashford United Methodist Church. She was an avid Packer fan and enjoyed traveling with Dar, visiting casinos, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family. She was a great cook and loved hosting holiday dinners. Her Christmas cookies were legendary. Lois is survived by her daughter, Connie (Marty) Ellingson; granddaughter, Jill (Chris) Anderson; great grandchildren, Brayden, Jaycie and Sawyer Anderson; niece, Janet Hays; and nephew, Bob (Cheryl) Hays. In addition to Dar, her husband of 59 years, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debbie Sampley; and her brothers, Glen, Lloyd, and Arthur Hays. A special thank you to the staff at Home Again Assisted Living, Waunakee and Agrace Hospice Care for their compassionate care and support given to Lois during the past year. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 10, 2022 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, WI. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison.
