Obituary
MADISON - Donald “Don” R. Preston passed away peacefully on October 20, 2022 at Oakwood Village East in Madison, WI, joining his wife, Dotty, in eternal life.
Don was born on October 7, 1938 in Bridgeport, IL, the son of Ray and Katharine. Donald moved to Madison when he was stationed at Truax Air Field. After his discharge, he worked as an electrician for the city of Madison’s Water Utility until his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Madison. Don married Dorothy “Dotty” Lake in Madison on Dec. 5, 1981.
Don enjoyed training retrievers both to run in field trials and to hunt. He’s probably telling everyone in heaven about his shooting skills and the 40,000 birds that were used to train those dogs! Thank you to all of his field trial friends who enriched his life after his retirement.
Don is survived by his son, Steve (Jeanne) of New Glarus and daughter Sue Deon of Cottage Grove along with his six grandchildren: Rachel, Michael (Marie), Michelle, Jacob (Nikki), Shelby and Ethan. Don was a great-grandpa to Paisley, Evelynn, Sylvie, Audrey, Ellie and Olivia.
Don was preceded in death by Dotty, his parents and two sisters, Marjory West and Delores Waldrop.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2126 N. Sherman Avenue, Madison WI with Pastor Grant Sorenson officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. A visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service, from 10-11:00 a.m.
The family wishes to thank Polly Boynton for her caring guidance and skilled care through Don’s stay at Oakwood East and appreciates the care given by Oakwood East staff as well as Agrace Hospice. Memorials in Don’s name can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to Agrace.
