Obituary
Madison- Ellen L. Hoffman, age 81, lost her long-fought battle with Alzheimer's Disease on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at home surrounded by her family. Ellen was born in Iowa City, Iowa on February 24, 1941, to Henry and Doris (Schuldt) Kipp, who relocated to Madison in 1943. She married Benjamin P. Hoffman, the love of her life, on October 26, 1957, and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage.
Ellen devoted her life to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, by providing day care and often took her family on special trips to numerous locations across the country. Ellen loved to cook and was well known for her baking abilities and her infamous egg rolls. Although she rarely followed a recipe, her creations turned out perfect every time.
Ellen was a breast cancer survivor; something she was very proud of. She participated in numerous Susan G Komen 5k walks, often walking with her children and grandchildren even if she had to carry them most of the way.
Ellen is survived by her husband Ben; their children Kathy (Rick) Gall, Donna (Rick) Swadley, Bob (Sue), Dan (Kathy), and Karen (Tim) Frey; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is further survived by 2 sisters, Judy DuFour, and Gail Kipp, and 1 brother Steve (Karen) Kipp.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Mike Kipp.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2450 Atwood Avenue, Madison. A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Ryan Funeral Home 2418 N Sherman Ave and again from 10:00 AM until the time of service at church on Wednesday. The interment will be held at Highland Memory Gardens.
